In the mid-1970s, several citizens and groups worked together to purchase and build the center with the idea of collaboration in mind. An agreement between 4-H and the Senior Citizens led to the creation of the Geary County 4-H/Senior Citizen Center and surrounding fair grounds. Today, the center and grounds host various groups and events such as the Geary County Senior Citizens Inc, 4-H and K-State Research & Extension activities, the Junction City Rodeo, the JC Saddle Club, Geary County Girls Softball and the  Free Fair.

In addition to these groups, members of the public may rent the building and facilities for use. All funds generated by rentals are used for maintenance upgrades of the facilities. The Building Committee recieves no funds from the county.
